Game servers

Upstreamr asks the game server itself, in its own query protocol: online or not, players online and maximum, map and version, for 313 games.

Free plan: the 5 protocols checked from Cloudflare’s edge. Paid plan: every protocol, the others on your probe agent.

Player names are never stored.

Add a game server monitor

  1. Go to Monitors → New monitor and pick Game server.
  2. Search for the Game (Rust, CS2, Minecraft, FiveM…). Its query protocol and ports fill in; for a game that isn’t listed, pick Other game and its Query protocol.
  3. Enter the server address with its game port. Change the Query port if your server answers queries on another one: many Steam games use a query port apart from the game port.
  4. Optionally set Minimum players, an Expected version, and the Restart grace (s): for that long, a server that stops answering counts as degraded rather than down, which covers scheduled restarts (new monitors start at 120 seconds).
  5. Choose what your page shows: players online and maximum, the map or world, the version.

Where the query runs

From Cloudflare’s edge, no agent needed: Minecraft Java, FiveM / RedM, TeamSpeak 3, Terraria TShock and Palworld. These work on the free plan.

On your probe agent: Minecraft Bedrock, Steam / Source query, Quake 3 / Call of Duty, Satisfactory, Mumble, GameSpy 1, GameSpy 2, GameSpy 3, All-Seeing Eye, Unreal Engine 2, id Tech 4, Quake II / QuakeWorld and Battlefield Frostbite. These use UDP or a port the edge can’t reach, so they run on the probe agent on your own servers (paid plan, 1 agent included).

Games without a query

Some games answer no query at all. The dialog then offers a TCP check on the game’s port, or a Push (heartbeat) monitor your server calls on a schedule.
